Electronic Resources and Publications
Development publications, information sources and details on development software can be found on UNIDO's information service and database. Recent information can be found on industry statistics, commercial environments and finance, industrial technologies, energy, agro-industries, national energy production centers and industries concerned with biology safety.
Several UNIDO publications are available:
- UNIDO Global Forum publishes “Global Industrial Development Report” annually
- UNIDO News publishes 6 periodicals each year in the “ID21: Industrial Development in the 21st Century”
- A weekly internet news message board “UNIDO Industry Observation”
UNIDO also supplies a range of economic development softwares, and information on these software packages is also available on the UNIDO database:
- COMFAR III Expert (Computer Model for Feasibility Analysis and Reporting), (www/unido.org/comfar) software system has assisted numerous financial institutions and enterprises, academic institutions, non-government organizations and the private sector in their financial appraisal of investment projects.
- UNIDO EXCHANGE serves as a network for the exchange of investment and technology information. UNIDO Exchange is a user-friendly network specializing in investment, technology and knowledge generation. It serves as a hub to initiate and institutionalize linkages and networking activities between different public and private sector institutions, organizations and companies. This unique electronic platform fosters interactions between all UNIDO stakeholders and partners, thus facilitating communication and the exchange of qualified business, technology and environmental opportunities. It enables Exchange Members to share knowledge and experience in related fields of industrial development, and puts specialized knowledge, information and proven technologies at the stakeholder's disposal. Members can use different platforms to receive and publish information on projects, events, expertise, publications and accessible related tools and methodologies.
UNIDO's Investment and Technology Promotion Network
UNIDO's 13 Investment and Technology Promotion Offices form a unique worldwide network and database enabling quick acquisition, identification and delivery of information in the international investment and technology transfer market. The ITPO network focuses on strengthening the capacities of client countries and institutions to improve their competitiveness. It also aims to foster domestic and international industrial partnerships, in particular between small and medium sized companies, through the promotion of investment and technological transfers. ITPO has maintained active links with the business community and development agencies in its host office countries. It now manages an extensive database of companies interested in forging industrial partnerships in the developing world. UNIDO has become an important player of the global network of investment, technical transfer and project finance.
UNIDO International Technology Centers (ITC)
- UNIDO's International Technology Centers aim to enhance North-South and South-South technology flows in order to achieve the following objectives: technological innovation and excellence in both developed and developing nations;
- Integration of advanced and new appropriate technologies within the global market;
- Facilitation of technology sourcing, transfer and acquisition;
- Provision of assistance in the management of technological change.
UNIDO's Industrial Subcontracting & Supply Chain Management Program (SPX)
Subcontracting and Partnership Exchanges (SPX) are non-profit, technical information and promotion centers. They facilitate subcontracts and partnerships between industrial contractors, suppliers and sub-contractors, and also function as instruments of assistance and regulation between these supply and demand partnerships. In this manner SPX can optimize the manufacturing capacities and productivity of affiliated industries, and aid the formation of an efficient production chain. At current date, UNIDO has established 60 Subcontracting and Partnership Exchanges (SPX) in more than 45 countries, which form part of UNIDO's global industrial outsourcing network.
