What is the legal status
of UNIDO ITPO-China?
UNIDO ITPO-China is a UNIDO field operational
office with diplomatic status, founded under an agreement
of UNIDO and the people's government of the PRC in 1996.
ITPO-China is located in Beijing. No other units operate
in other regions of China.

Does UNIDO ITPO-China have
any funds or grants that I can apply for?
According to the charter of the United Nations, no specialized
agency of the UN can be active in lending funds and
profit-seeking operations. However, UNIDO can assist
approved projects in mobilizing resources from several
grant funds, which include:
1) ¡¡Global
Industrial Development Fund which is financed by the
World Bank, the Global Environment Fund (GEF), and donations
from member countries of UNIDO
2) ¡¡A
specially designed fund (Trust Fund arrangement) which
is designed to support the research and start up phase
of projects including modernization or restructuring
of selected industries, regional sustainable development
strategy plans, international financing or strategic
cooperation consultations, promotion of high technology
and cleaner production technologies or other specific
research programs, conducted by ad-hoc expert working
teams.
Projects approved by UNIDO ITPO-China may apply for
the above funds. The funds are mainly used for the research-
and start up phase of projects that are concerned with
the sustainable development of China and the Asian Region.
What is the structure of UNIDO worldwide?
UNIDO's headquarters is located in Vienna
and it has field offices in 30 countries and ITPO offices
in 14 countries. Furthermore, UNIDO has established
a number of International Technology Centers (ITC),
Clean Production Centers (CPC) and 60 Subcontracting
and Partnership Exchanges (SPX) with organizations in
over 45 countries.
How does UNIDO ITPO-China charge
for its services, or are its services free? Will UNIDO
ITPO-China take shares and/or profits in projects?
As a UNIDO field operational office enjoying
diplomatic status in China, UNIDO ITPO-China is a professional
institution and an independent, neutral and non-profit
multilateral broker. It does not charge any commission
for its services, and does not share profits or act
as a shareholder in companies.
For approved projects and according to their specific
locations, complexity, current progress and the degree
of official support they have obtained, UNIDO ITPO-China
may secure partial financial support for the startup
phase through its Asia Programme Special Aid Fund. Such
support may contribute to the establishment of a special
UNIDO ITPO-China working team for the research, planning
and implementation of projects. The remaining costs
incurred by such a working team, and other project implementation
expenses, are to be borne by the applicant and/or its
partners.
For other programs or projects without direct support,
UNIDO ITPO-China also provides flexible services, such
as the creation of a project
evaluation report at a service charge.
Can UNIDO ITPO-China find an investor
or cooperation partner for my project?
Yes. Once a project has been approved by UNIDO
ITPO-China, it will be promoted within the UNIDO global
network and UNIDO ITPO-China will actively provide integrated
service packages. These include financial support, solution
planning, the creation of specific working teams, coordination
among governments, enterprises and other non¨Cgovernment
institutions, and access to international resources
via the UNIDO platform.
